“Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day,” the siblings said in a statement. “The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. Nick Reiner Charged With Parents’ Murder, Court Brief
Less than 24 hours after being charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths, Nick Reiner appeared in a Los Angeles courtroom on Wednesday for the first time since his arrest in connection with the deaths of his parents. His arraignment was postponed until January 7, marking the second delay since he was taken into custody on Sunday. Reiner’s lawyer, Alan Jackson, spoke to the crowd outside the courthouse after the hearing, saying:
“First of all, and most importantly, this is a devastating tragedy that has befallen the Reiner family. … Our hearts go out to the entire Reiner family,” he told reporters outside the courthouse after the brief hearing. He added that there are “very, very complex and serious issues that are associated with this case [that] need to be thoroughly but very carefully dealt with and examined and looked at and analyzed.”
More Details On Nick Reiner’s First Court Appearance
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner later ruled the deaths as caused by multiple sharp force injuries. During the brief court appearance, the 32-year-old said little beyond responding, “Yes, your honor,” while wearing an all-blue vest. Prosecutors have charged Reiner with two counts of murder, including special circumstance allegations involving the use of a knife, and if convicted, he could face life in prison without parole or the death penalty. During Reiner’s first appearance before a judge, no plea was entered.
